Avoid The Biggest Used Bucket Truck Buying Mistakes!

Like any other investment, buying used bucket trucks for personal or company use should be done carefully to avoid big mistakes and future regrets. Being wise in choosing the right vehicle takes a lot of time and consideration, which includes researching any truck being considered for purchase. One should avoid being enticed by outward appearances since there are many good-looking trucks that may not be in great working condition.

Potential Mistakes

Following are some of the biggest mistakes that could potentially be made when purchasing used bucket trucks.
Lack of Preparation - There are many types of used bucket trucks on the market. Before searching for a particular model, be sure to identify the kind of equipment that is needed for the specific jobs to be done. This includes things such as the weight capacity, lifting height, and other additional features.
Impulse Buying - Many purchasers want to buy the very first model truck that they see. Even though a buyer may have just started searching for a vehicle, the tendency is to look at the appearance-pleasing models first. It is important not to make an impulse purchase; it is better to take some time to carefully look at many different vehicles and gather information about each one. Finding the best one that fits the budget and needs of the company should be the top priority for any potential buyer.

Helpful Suggestions

To avoid making costly mistakes in the purchasing process, the following suggestions are listed:
Search Online - It is important to look at used bucket trucks online. Get on the internet and find specialty dealers within the area. Although there may be no vehicles listed on a dealer's website at that time, they are still a good lead for tracking down the best places to find such trucks. If prices are listed on their website, use those prices as a guideline for future reference when a purchase is possible.
Additional Research - Make an effort to obtain additional knowledge about these trucks before deciding on one. Learn about its features and reliability on the internet by researching specific vehicle information. By becoming familiar with bucket trucks as a whole, a buyer will have a larger knowledge base about the equipment. Becoming more familiar with the online community of previously owned bucket trucks can be very helpful when the time comes to make a purchase.
Gather Facts - Be aware of the use of persuasive words or pictures; don't allow such words or pictures to be a determining factor when purchasing this equipment. If there are any vehicle history reports, get a copy of them as this will help to learn whether the vehicle has been in any past accidents.
Thorough Inspection - There should be a thorough test drive and inspection to make sure that the equipment is in good working condition. This may take some time but it is well worth the extra effort. A mechanic would be invaluable, so do not hesitate to bring one along for a pre-purchase inspection. A buyer will greatly benefit from the mechanic's ability to check the vehicle for any leaks, rust or other signs of damage and can provide a report to the buyer after testing the equipment so that any mechanical issues are clear.
Use Reliable Dealer- When purchasing via the internet, choose a dealer in these vehicles who has been in this business a long time as they are likely very knowledgeable and experienced in this field. Such a dealer does all the legwork for a client and carries a warranty on sold vehicles to back up their trustworthiness.

By using extra effort and following the helpful tips above, there is a good chance that a buyer will find many used bucket trucks that will fit a company's needs. Being informed and prepared about buying used bucket trucks will be very helpful in avoiding the biggest mistakes first time buyers are liable to make!

The Different Factors One Should Consider While Buying Trucks

If you are looking to buy a new truck you will be considering the many aspects to be considered. If you analyze all these aspects beforehand you will surely get an excellent truck fulfilling all your requirements. You will find various types of trucks for sale. You have to be very careful about in your choice. The different aspects you should consider before buying trucks are -

Size or Market Segment

Mostly the trucks come under either the full-size or compact category. Compact one could be considered a relative term in the present time. Most of the full-size trucks can be obtained in the heavy-duty guise.

Cab Designs

Each manufacturer generally has its snazzy name for their trucks. But, the body styles basically for trucks are regular cab, crew cab and extended cab. The regular cabs possess two doors and seat between 2 and 3 adults. The extended cabs are compact and provide mostly additional storage space. Full-size versions have the capacity to seat 3 extra passengers. Rear clamshell doors provide easiness for getting cargo and people in and out at back of the extended cabs. But a few have smaller, front-hinged doors. The crew cabs possess 4 full sized doors as well as comfortable seats for between 5 and 6 passengers.

Engine and Fuel Economy

The compact trucks come in 4-, 5-, 6- and 8-cylinder engines and offer a variety for different buyers. Several full-sized trucks come in 6-cylinder engines on the base models. But mostly trucks make use of V8 or V10 engines which return marginal fuel-economy figures at best. The heavy-duty full-sized trucks have diesel engines which give lots of towing power as well as better mileage.

Safety

Mostly trucks give basic safety equipment such as seatbelts and front airbags for all passengers. Stability control and side curtain airbags are commonplace now on the full sized models. Few compact models have poor performance in the crash tests. People should be careful of the rear jump seats which aren't made to offer protection to anybody in case of a crash.

Drivetrain

Mostly all the trucks give both automatic and manual transmissions, plus two- and four-wheel drive. Several vehicles also give traction-aiding devices such as locking differentials, limited-slip or electronic traction control.

Versatility of Interior Seats

Mostly trucks could be equipped with bucket seats or 3-person front bench. The crew or extended cabs give the option to fold the complete rear seat up, or one half at least. Some latest full-sized trucks permit you folding the front-passenger seat flat and this gives a table like, handy surface.

Towing Ability

The compact trucks have the ability of towing from 3,000 to 7,000 pounds. It depends on the way they are equipped. The regular full-sized trucks have the ability of towing 12,000 pounds with particular suspension and engine configurations, though most range from 8,000 to 10,000 pound capacities. The heavy-duty full-sizers have the capability of hauling 24,000 pounds if they are equipped with fifth-wheel connection. One should properly analyze the axle ratios, which really matter in fuel economy and towing capacity.

The truck sales figures depend on these aspects. One should make a choice that completely suites his liking and requirement.

The article focuses on the different aspects which people should consider while sell my truck. The factors such as engine and fuel economy, safety, drivetrain, towing ability etc. are discussed in detail.

A Couple of Thoughts About Buying That New Truck Bed Cover for Your Pickup

I have often been asked by fellow pickup truck owners why they should bother with a tonneau cover for the bed of their trucks. While it all seems to make so much sense to me, apparently not everyone gets it. There are a number of good reasons to put a cover back there, irregardless of which kind of cover you choose. First, tonneau covers help keep the nasty elements and weather out of the bed of your truck, and whatever you are hauling in it! Secondly, they keep all the lookie-loos from checking out what you've got back there. Third in line, there is a definite boost to your fuel economy by flattening out the back end. A fourth thought is also that they just look cool back there, and make the whole truck look cool!!!

Before you take my advice and rush out to buy a truck bed cover for your rig, here are a few thoughts you should take into consideration BEFORE you buy! I mean - you really don't want to be wasting a lot of your money by getting a cover that doesn't do what YOU need it to. Looks are one thing, but function and purpose are critically important too!

Do a little thinking about how you plan to, or actually do use, your truck. Is it a truck you use a lot for your job or work? Is it used more for hauling your weekend toys? Do you just use it for recreation? Or is it just your favorite vehicle for cruising or getting around? Finally, how much can you afford right now?

Financially speaking, the soft tonneau covers generally cost less than the hard covers. Soft covers that zip or snap or hook will usually also be less expensive. A little more work for you - but if money is tight, certainly a good way to go.

Maybe looks and color are a key for you. The fiberglass covers quite often offer a wide range of color choices, and the likelihood of matching your vehicle's color. Fiberglass covers are an example of a hard tonneau cover. Easy to get a larger color choice with a hard flat surface, than on a soft pliable material.

The hard top covers are more sturdy, do a much better job of maintaining a nice straight even shape over the bed, and offer less wind resistance. Some are made from metals, some from fiberglass, some from plastics and polymers. All make for an excellent look back there.

How much help are you going to have putting the cover on and off, or opening and closing it? A heavier hard cover can be some real work if it's just you trying to do it all yourself. So are some of the soft tops because of their flexibility. You know, once you take them loose, the shape is lost, and it becomes a little like folding a fitted sheet - if you know what I mean!

If you are one of the millions that use your truck for your job or your work, then you really want to consider covers that are simple to open and close, and covers that can be left open - either in part - or the whole thing. Here, I think the soft covers are good because they can be rolled or folded up - without a lot of effort. There are also hinged covers that can be opened in sections. Again, lighter weight is better here. Easier for you to work with alone. If not a soft cover, then think about aluminum or other light weight hard materials.

If this is going to be something that you take off a lot and stow away in your garage, you probably want to go soft, as they will roll or fold up nicely and quickly, and won't take up much space. The hard covers are going to be like stowing your roof rack or kayak in the garage - where you will need some room along a wall, or an overhead storage rack.

One final thought here is about what you carry in the bed. If you continuously are carrying expensive toys, tools, supplies, or gear in the bed, then the best option going is a hard cover with a tailgate lock. These usually involve at cover that can't be opened unless the tail gate is down. With a lock, you can keep the tailgate secure, as well as everything in your bed. Also a lot harder to cut through a hard top cover with a knife or machete.

The whole idea is to really shop around and look around, and see what looks good on a vehicle like yours. And study up to see what features match up to YOUR specific needs and use. Looking cool is great, but not at the expense of functionality! Your time is definitely worth a lot, and so is the gear you are hauling. There are a lot of solid auto accessories web sites and stores out there selling good quality truck bed covers, and many offer lots of info about the tops they sell. Some even have instructions - to make sure it's something you can handle! Enjoy your search and happy hunting!

What to Do - And Not Do - When Buying Used Bucket Trucks Online!

Unlike the average car, a bucket truck is rarely found sitting on a used car lot for sale. This is because only a few commercial dealers specialize in selling this type of vehicle. Anyone who is looking for this type of specialized equipment and would like a wide variety of choices from which to choose will find that the internet is a great place to start searching.

By shopping for a vehicle on the internet, valuable time and money can be saved since driving all over town trying to find what is needed has been avoided. There are many commercial dealers online from which to choose. One of the best things about this structure is that most of them are just the click of a mouse button away. Another advantage of choosing an online dealer is the large selection of used bucket trucks available. Their products are often categorized by the truck's manufacturer and then according to working height, load capacity, and price.

It is important to keep in mind that it is most likely that the online dealer is not someone widely known to the average purchaser. Therefore, there are some risks involved; don't let this fact be discouraging. There are many ways to ensure the chances of finding quality used bucket trucks. Following are some of the "do's" and "don'ts" of purchasing a used commercial vehicle online:

Do This When Purchasing Online:

Determine Type- Before using the computer to find used bucket trucks for sale, determine the specific type of truck needed for business requirements as there are many different types from which to choose. Some essential features can be roughly categorized by working height, weight capacity, and boom design, among other things. Establishing needs prior to browsing online is necessary because of how many of these types of used vehicles are available for purchase in this fashion. Avoid the distraction of unnecessary features and add-on's that may not even be applicable to the identified business needs.
Find Online- Once the type of bucket truck has been established, the next step is to actually find it online. While searching, several vehicles from different commercial dealers that fit the required specifications will most likely be found.
Compare Cost and Quality- The next step to find a great deal should be to compare the cost and quality of the vehicles that each commercial dealer has for sale. Checking the price is pretty straightforward since the price is usually posted along with an actual photo of the truck for sale. To check the quality of the vehicle, check the odometer reading. This reading offers a rough idea of what the operational condition may be and is often posted along with the photo.
Inquire About Dealer- After locating a potential used vehicle to purchase, the next and most important step is to do some background research on the online dealer. Take some time to read the information posted on their website; see how long they have been in business, check their shipping policies, warranties, maintenance, insurance, etc. If this information is not available on their website, contact them directly via their posted telephone number. For an unbiased review, check the company's standing with the Better Business Bureau in their location.Don't Do This When Purchasing Online: Let Price Be Only Factor- Don't succumb to the temptation of a used truck that seems to be priced suspiciously low. Commercial dealers price their vehicles based on condition and mileage; however, even though many vehicles are reconditioned prior to listing for sale, usually only certain parts have been replaced or reconditioned. Some parts may already be near the end of their serviceable life. To avoid that situation, make it a practice to not consider any cheaply priced vehicle. To be on the safe side, always make sure there is a good balance between the quality and the cost.
Buy Too Old a Truck- Don't buy a used bucket truck that is too old, one that has been out of production for some time. When such a vehicle needs parts repaired or replaced, finding these parts may be very difficult.
Buy an Accident-Repaired Truck- Don't purchase a used bucket truck that has been in an accident. Invisible cracks and slight misalignment on the boom or outriggers that may not have been checked during repairs can make the vehicle risky and unfit for aerial operations. Check the maintenance history to see if any major repairs have been done.Following the above 'Do's and Don'ts' when purchasing a used bucket truck online can help ensure that the acquisition experience is a good one and the best one for the money is found to fit specific business needs. Happy hunting!

Tips for Buying Bucket Trucks

Bucket trucks are the workhorses for many businesses across several industries. Without utility trucks, the telephone lines and electric lines you see all around wouldn't exist. Specifically, these aerial lift trucks are used to set up signs and lights as well as repair them. Bucket trucks are integral machines to different industries like power providers, painters, sign and light repair, tree trimming / forestry, and many more..

On your search for bucket trucks for sale, be extremely careful where you look. It's best to buy utility equipment from a dealer or directly from a fleet. Used utility equipment can drastically vary in quality, reliability, and safety. Don't jeopardize you or a worker's safety by buying a bucket truck in poor condition. Even used utility truck dealers can be suspicious regarding their practices. Surprisingly, many utility truck dealers don't specialize int utility trucks and sell cars, atvs, boats, and whatever else they can. It's best to buy from someone reputable and is known to sell quality used lift trucks. One of the oldest and established cherry picker dealers out there is Southwest Equipment. Our recommendation is that you should read reviews of the business before you venture to it. Customer reviews can provide lot's of good insight on the business practices and customer service of that particular store. Keep in mind that reviews can be manipulated and you should remain relatively objective in your approach, if you see something in person that correlates to a review, that should send up a big red flag.

Regarding cherry pickers, a.k.a. bucket trucks, it is best to purchase name brand equipment. Utility truck builders like Altec, ETI, Versalift, Hi Ranger, Terex, Aerial Lift of Connecticut, and Lift All are some of the best ones to look into buying. Usually, they are good quality trucks and have parts fairly easy to find/buy. Overall, Altec is the most popular and the largest brand. Altec's equipment is high quality and the maintenance is typically cheaper. There are several Altec dealers across the globe. The bigger brands typically sell utility equipment that is easy to work on.

Keep in mind, it's never smart to have an inexperienced mechanic work on your bucket truck. A good utility truck mechanic will go a long way in providing longevity to your fleet of trucks. Before you buy a truck, whether you're purchasing from an individual or a dealer, get it inspected by an independent mechanic. Make sure the mechanic is trustworthy and doesn't have an angle or agenda to steer you toward or away from buying it.

These tips should set you on your way to making a solid, informed decision on buying bucket trucks either new or used. Finding a good deal may take time and will definitely require patience. Stay focused and remove any and all emotion from buying and you will get that great deal you desire. Good luck!

Sam is a popular blogger about utility trucks and is one of the most respected sources for info on bucket trucks. His blog, the Bucket Truck Blogger, is the most visited blog about utility trucks on the internet. He recommends buying the best quality reconditioned used bucket trucks for the best value/price ratio.
